JAMB 2017/2018 Updates : board meets WAEC, NECO, to fix 2017 UTME Date

JAMB has now concluded plans to fix the dates
for the 2017 UTME.
This was made known today
by The Head, Media and Information of the
board, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
Members of the JAMB board have been
scheduled to meet with board members of
WAEC, NECO and NABTEB on Tuesday, 17th

January, to find suitable dates for the 2017
UTME.

Remember that the new JAMB CBT no longer
holds in one day, and may require up to 2 weeks
to fully test all candidates, who apply for the
exam. This meeting will therefore help avoid
clashes in exam dates for other exam bodies, a
problem experienced in previous exams.
According to Mr. Fabian, this is the final
preparation required before the Sale of 2017
UTME Registration Forms can commence.
We therefore hope that another press briefing
will be conducted just after the meeting on 17th
January, to reveal the possible 2017 UTME Exam
Dates, and when sale of registration forms will
commence.

opened and as such, candidates can now

are hitherto made on paper and only detected
while processing the paper forms by WAEC.

Registration Template for the examination can
easily be printed or downloaded by the School

For the payment of the WAEC 2017/2018 e-

collect
the approved registration fees from all their
candidates and issue one bank draft in favour
of The West African Examinations
Council (WAEC). This cheque is paid at the
WAEC Zonal/Branch Office in charge of their
State. The designated WAEC Finance Officer in
the Zonal/Branch Office enters information
regarding the payment on his computer and
issued the school a scratch card or pay voucher
containing information to enable the Principal/
Examination Officer sign up to the e-Registration
Website.
However, to accommodate schools that may not
have easy access to the internet in their locality
and to make the online registration trouble-free,
there is a provision for offline registration on
their
standalone PCs or through Business Centers in
their locality. The CD-ROM containing this offline
registration facility will be given to schools along
with the pay voucher upon payment. This also
means that schools could start registering their
candidates as they collect entry fees from them.

ensuring smooth take off from February 2017.
Earlier in the welcome address, the Director of

“It has reduced to the barest minimum several
problems hitherto experienced by Prospective
Corps Members, Corps members, staff, Students’
Affairs Officers and other stakeholders,” she
said.
NYSC Director added that the biometric would be
used in the clearance of corps members for
weekly Community Development Service and
monthly clearance, adding that those without the
approval would not be considered for payment of
the monthly allowance.

JAMB 2017 Updates : O’ Level / UTME Subjects Requirements To Consider Before Choosing A Course

The 2017/18 UTME registration is expected to commence soon. Already, many candidates are eagerly waiting for the announcement. However, only a few have taken time to decide on the course of study to apply for.

In deciding a course of study, there are few things you should bear in mind;

First, you need to consider if you have interest or academic aptitude for the course you wish to apply for.
Another is, to verify if the course you intend to study is offered in the institution you are applying to. You are also to verify the accreditation status of that course in such institution.

Most importantly, you need to verify if you meet the O’level and UTME Subjects requirements for that particular course.
Each course of study has a specific O’level and UTME Subjects requirements you must meet before you are admitted to study that course. What works for an Engineering course won’t work for a medical course.

Many UTME Candidates often make the mistake of choosing a course that they do not meet the requirements for during UTME registration. Thereby disqualifying themselves of admission from the onset. No school can admit you to study a course you do not have the requirements for.

Even if your name appears on the admission list, you will be disqualified during the screening, verification or clearance process.

Like I mentioned earlier, the UTME registration for 2017 is yet to commence. If I were you, this is the time I would use to make the decision concerning which course of study to choose when the registration begins.

To help you in making that decision, you can make use of the Online JAMB Brochure.

It will show you the courses available in each higher institution, the O’level and UTME Subject combination or requirements for the courses.

If you are still a bit confused about the O’level requirements of the course you wish to study in any institution. You can post the institution, course, your O’level subjects and UTME Subjects you intend to sit for.

Enlightened ngstudents will help you determine if you are good to go or not.

Goodluck!

UNICAL Resolutions At The Last Senate Council’s Meeting

The Resolutions reached by the University Of
Calabar, Calabar (UNICAL) Senate Council in her
last senate meeting.
A Memo signed by the School authority has been
sent to all the HODs .
Below are SOME of the Resolutions;
1. From now henceforth there will be nothing like
Part Payment of School Charges. This means
you must pay your School Charges 100% no more
60% First Semester and 40% Second Semester
(No More Installments).

  1. All Departments, Faculties and Colleges dues
will be done in the Bank ( i.e Faculty Handbook,
    Dues, Department Dues, Department Registration
    Charges and Handbook, Course Registrations,
    Carry Over Courses Re-registration, Department
Defense etc). No student is entitled to make
payment to anybody whatsoever, if you do by
mistake or intentionally you must surely face the
repercussion, meaning no proof of your payment
no exams. Go and verify which bank your
    Department is to pay to.
  2. There is nothing like ‘E’ again as a score in
Unical. From now now it will be A, B, C, D, and F
    (0 – 44 = F). Reasons being that some
    Departments would have lost accreditation
including your Department in the just concluded
accreditation exercises by the NUC Accreditation
Teams in December because they were still
grading students with ‘E’ as Pass.
  3. All results will be out on or before Monday
January 9th, 2017 as demanded by the DVC
Academics and henceforth students will be
seeing their results before going on vacation or
    1st week of resumption.
  4. If you fail 5 courses in one session (Not
Semester), you are out of the University Of
    Calabar.
The School Authority has ordered all HODs to
    follow the new Memo strictly.
    Finally, the Management regrets any
    inconveniences these new Resolutions will
    cause.

JAMB 2017 Latest News – Important Notice From FG To Candidates

The Federal Government has warned specialized
institutions in the country, which have been
running programmes that are not in conformity
with their mandates, to stop such with immediate
effect.
In a statement on Sunday, the government
directed that such universities should stick to
their core mandates for which they were set up
and desist from running programmes which have
no bearing to their names and foundation.
It described as unfortunate a situation where
universities of agriculture offered programmes in
Law and management courses such as
Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business
Administration, among others, and most of these
institution go as far as changing the
nomenclature of the courses, a situation where
they have now have Banking Engineering,
Accounting Technology among others.
The statement by the spokesman for the Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr. Fabian
Benjamin, stated that the Minister of Education,
Mallam Adamu Adamu, had directed JAMB “to
delete all such courses on its portal.”
He added that all candidates desirous of sitting
the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination, the statement advised, “should not
be hoodwinked into such programmes as they
are illegal and are not provided for in JAMB
brochure.
He described specialised universities as those
set up to pursue specific courses and
programmes to generate manpower in particular
sectors of the economy.
He said, “Some of these specialised institutions
include universities of agriculture, universities of
technologies and universities of medicine,
amongst others.
The Federal Government has observed that these
institutions have derailed from their statutory
responsibilities, thereby running programmes that
are antithetical to their mandates.
The government notes the unfortunate situation
where Universities of Agriculture offer
programmes in Law, management courses such
as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business
Administration, among others.
It described this as aberration which must stop
with immediate effect.
