Nasarawa State House of Assembly has
summoned the Vice Chancellor of the state
University in Keffi to appear before the House of
Assembly to explain why the 2015/2016
admissions by the institution did not favour
indigenes of the state.
The House passed the resolution on Tuesday
after deliberating extensively on a motion moved
by Mr Daniel Oga-Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) under
Matters of Public Interest in Lafia.
He said that the 2015/2016 academic session
admission list of the university did not favour the
indigenes of the state and called on the
Assembly to intervene in order to redress the
anomaly and get qualified indigenes admission in
to the institution.
“My colleagues, I am calling on you to support
my motion to enable the Vice Chancellor of the
Nasarawa State University, Keffi, to appear
before the House to explain his role on the
2015/2016 admission list of the university which
has not favoured indigenes of the state.
“The Act establishing the university said that 80
per cent of every admission of the institution
should be indigenes while 20 per cent should be
non-indigenes.
“But in this year’s admission, it is unfortunate
that our children are crying out there for not
getting admission in to the university,’’ he said.
He said that the appearance of the vice
chancellor would help in answering questions
that affect the chances of the state indigenes
from getting admission in to the university.
Mr Kassim Mohammed (APC-Akwanga South)
seconded the motion requesting the vice
chancellor to appear before House.
He said that the appearance of the vice
chancellor would help in boosting the chances of
the state indigenes to get admission in to the
university as well as improve on the standard of
education in the state.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim
Balarabe, directed the Clerk of the House to
communicate the resolution to the vice
chancellor to appear House of Assembly to
answer questions over the admissions saga.
