The National Youth Service Corps » (NYSC) had
recently introduced a compulsory skills
acquisition and entrepreneurship programme for
all corps members during their service year.
During a visit to the corps members undergoing
orientation programme at the NYSC Orientation
Camp in Bayelsa, The Director-General of NYSC,
Brigadier-General S. Z Kazaure explained the
reason for making this move.
According to Kazaure, this directive will enable
Corps members become job creators rather than
seeking scarce white collar jobs after the
mandatory one-year national programme.
He also noted that the need to bridge the
unemployment informed the decision to
introduce a compulsory skills acquisition and
entrepreneurship programme for corps members
during the service year.
Kazaure urged the corps members to create jobs
for others, nothing that having passion for
entrepreneurship and skills acquisition is a sure
way for solving the unemployment problem of
young graduates.
He also described the corps members as highly
disciplined and patriotic and commended them
for their cooperation inspite of limited camp
facilities.

Bayelsa State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr.
Anthony Ekeocha, who commended the state
government for constructing a new orientation
camp for the scheme appealed for the early
completion of the project to ease the challenges
experienced by corps members and camp
officials during orientation exercises.
“ I am optimistic that the visit of the Director-
General to the state would offer him an opportunity
to interact with key officials of government in the
state and further add voice to our persistent for the
early completion of the new NYSC orientation
camp” , he added.
