Gunmen numbering about 20 stormed Kana village in Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa state, killed one, kidnapped 10 and left scores badly injured on Monday night.

Chairman of the local government, Mohammed Sani Otto, confirmed the incident in a phone conversation with our correspondent.

“It is confirmed that some gunmen well armed invaded Kana Town, Monday, shooting sporadically to scare the people,” he said.

According to him, the gunmen came from Kana hill and went back through the same route. The hill stretches from Kana to Maraba Udege, Onda, Agwada, Nasarawa Eggon to Wamba Towns and beyond the state.

The chairman who was visibly disturbed by the incident said he had to rush to the scene to see for himself and also to sympathize with the families affected.

“ I abruptly condemn the act, I have just visited the town to obtain information and to sympathize with the families of the slain, abducted and injured victims.

“I commend the Guards Brigade 177 Battalion, Keffi who accompanied me to further build the villager’s confidence and pledged to do all within their reach for safe return of the captives, “he said.

The council chairman called on the state government to provide more security to safeguard the lives of his people so that they can carry on their daily activities without fear.

An eyewitness account claimed that a heavily pregnant woman is among the 10 persons taken away by the gunmen.

“We are hearing gun shooting ‘kakaka’ for some hours and no security was around to protect us”, he cried.

As at the time of filling this report, all efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel proved abortive.
