Gunmen have kidnapped a former commissioner of higher education in Nasarawa state, Clement Uhembe.
Channels TV reports that the development has been confirmed by Bola Longe, the commissioner of police in Nasarawa state on Wednesday, October 7.
Longe said the former commissioner was abducted on Tuesday evening, October 6, at his residence in the Akunza Migili area of the state and was taken to an unknown destination.
“At about 2100 hours of yesterday, 6th of October at Akunza Migili, the former commissioner of Nasarawa state was kidnapped by some armed men who stormed his house and he was forcefully taken away.”
The police commissioner assured that the police have intensified efforts to rescue Uhembe.
He asked the public to support the force in a bid to hasten the former commissioner’s release.
In a related development, Sani Dangwaggo, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gamji ward of Bakura local government area of Zamfara state, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
He was reportedly abducted on Tuesday, October 6, around 11 pm.
The gunmen were reported to have whisked him away from his residence at Gamji community, in Bakura, during a downpour in the area.
Sani made the confession when he was paraded by the police alongside 46 other criminals at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Headquarters in Abuja.
Sani who operated using fake military uniform said he carried out his operations mainly within Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and Zamfara states.
