The Nigerian Army has debunked reports that it was behind the reported shooting of peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll gate on Tuesday night. In a post on their Facebook page on Tuesday, the Army described as fake news, claims by Reno Omokri that the President and his Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai directed that unarmed protesters be shot

Omokri had posted on Twitter, accusing the President and the Chief of Army Staff of masterminding the attacks on protesters

Protesters had blocked the Lekki toll gate for many days and refused to leave the scene after the Government imposed curfew in the state, which makes it impossible for protesters to converge

Omokri had called on the international community to refuse to lend money to the Nigerian Government, cancel all visa for members of President Buhari’s Government and refuse to sell weapons to Nigeria

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Army had recently debunked a story from Omokri that there was division in the Army as to how to handle the protesters
